Welcome to the University of Birmingham Psychiatry Society (PsychSoc)! If you're fascinated by the human mind, the intricate blend of medicine, psychology, and sociology, or the journey of mental well-being, you've found your community.
At PsychSoc, our core commitment is to continue our highly valued buddy scheme, connecting students interested in psychiatry with trainees or consultants for invaluable mentorship and advice. We also aim to organize our popular mock OSCEs to help you build confidence and excel in your exams. These events are our fundamental promise to our members, providing practical support for your academic and career development.
In the past, PsychSoc has delivered a rich program of engaging speaker events, featuring leading psychiatrists and professionals discussing diverse topics like child and adolescent forensic psychiatry, personality disorders, and novel psychoactive substances. We've proudly hosted talks exploring mental illness from unique perspectives, including "The Wounded Healer" and a powerful "service users' series" that highlighted lived experiences with conditions like schizoaffective disorder and post-partum psychosis. We also have a history of successful collaborations with other societies, expanding our reach and impact.
While we can't guarantee every specific event from previous years will return, we are driven to create a similarly vibrant and impactful year. We are actively working to bring you more mind-racing lectures and insightful discussions that delve into the many subspecialties of psychiatry, always striving to make our events both fun and relevant for all medical students.
To achieve even more and truly elevate PsychSoc, we are always on the lookout for enthusiastic and dedicated members to get involved. Your ideas, energy, and commitment are crucial for shaping our future. Whether you aspire to be a future committee member or simply want to contribute to an event, your participation can help us deliver an even wider range of incredible opportunities, work experience possibilities, and foster a truly supportive environment.
