MedSoc Performing Arts Society (ARTE)

ARTE is MedSoc’s performing arts society! We’ve been performing musicals and plays in the medical school for over 30 years, with everything being organised entirely by students. Our shows feature live music performed by the incredibly talented musicians who form our band and spectacular stage lighting and sound provided by the wonderful MedSoc Tech Team! For the musical, we rehearse three times per week in the autumn term, singing and dancing our way through the dreary weather until show week in late November. Previous productions include Legally Blonde, Sister Act, Anything Goes, and most recently, Beauty and the Beast! Then in the spring, we rehearse and perform a play – we often select plays by some of the most celebrated playwrights, such as Alan Ackroyd, Laura Wade, and Agatha Christie. As well as allowing us to enjoy performing, our shows also serve a charitable purpose: we donate all of the profits from ticket sales to a charity chosen by the cast of each show. For example, last year we supported St Giles Hospice and The Lewy Body Society. Our autumn 2025 show – Footloose – is set to be our best yet, and we’re looking for new cast members! We encourage students from all years and all MedSoc courses to audition – you don’t have to be a pro, just someone who wants to have an amazing time performing with us!
