    Ideas

Vale Fireworks used to be the highlight of the year for countless students (and indeed members of the local community), with an outstanding evening of fireworks free to watch at the Vale. However, this last took place in 2019; since the Covid-19 pandemic, the event hasn't run. I (and many others) would like to see Vale Fireworks reinstated as one of the best and most popular evenings of the academic year.

    Policy

The Guild should commit to supporting and running this event every year.

    Scrutiny

Bringing back Vale Fireworks was a manifesto pledge of the current Activities Officer - I would like an explanation of why it hasn't happened this year. For example, what insurmountable obstacles were faced that made it infeasible to run? Why, given that over 6 months' notice of the intent to run the event was given (since the election results), did organisation not happen sooner?

3:25pm on 28 Nov 23 Here is the section on my scrutiny panel report, surrounding this: Years ago, there annually used to be a Fireworks Night on the Vale. However, this stopped being funded and has not happened for a few years. There was no Fireworks Night this year. This is because I have had to adapt my priorities due to various complaints and incidents that I have had to deal with, many of which were serious. These are confidential so I am unable to detail these. Unforeseen challenges have also arisen since I wrote my manifesto e.g. tensions surrounding Palestine/external memberships/cancelling of Valefest I still hope to work on this returning in 2024.
