The reduction of sports fees to make participation in sport more accessible.
Lobby the university to reduce the fees for membership in sports societies. As it currently stands UoB demands an aggregious amount for participation in sports, far more than the majority of universities. There is some understanding to why this may be: the prioritisation of modernising facilities over the accessibility to students; the majority of students coming from London and the advantageous price gauging (as they come from areas of higher wage and higher cost of living); the lack of accessible scholarships/funds to support students who cannot afford the current rates.
Lobbying the university to enact these changes or providing support programmes to increase accessibility to the current fees.
How can the university decrease the fees?
At what cost to quality will accessibility bring?
Are the current fees necessary for the function of the facilities?
If we cannot reduce fees, what support programmes can we implement to include student who cannot afford the fees?
