Tips for Students Attending

Research Companies/Organisations:
Search their website. What do they do? What type of opportunities might be available?

Be Enthusiastic:
Smile! Show organisations that you are really interested in them and the opportunities available!

Ask Questions:
Have questions ready! E.g. “How would you describe the responsibilities of the role?”; “Will I need a DBS?”; “What would a typical shift include?”; “What skills and experience are you looking for?"

Network:
Use initiative – Shake hands and introduce yourself, strike up relevant conversation. Be confident and remember, they are here to find students to fill their roles! They want to help you!

Apply:
If you're interested in a vacancy or opportunity make sure that you set aside time to apply for it or register online after the fair. Don’t waste the chance, as you never know when the opportunity will become available again!

And Finally...

Remember these organisations have come to the University to speak to you! Try not to be shy, as it’s a great opportunity to meet people before sending CV’s and volunteer application forms.

If you’re unsure of anything please come and speak to us at the Jobs, Skills and Volunteering stall, and we’ll try to help. We have CV and application guides available, as well as more information about signing up to our online volunteering portal. You can even find out about skills workshops aimed at helping you with CVs, job applications and personal development.
