The society is a sign language group which teaches students basic sign language. We usually run a British Sign Language (BSL) Level 1 course. The course is one year long, with evening classes taking place each week of term. Topic areas include: the alphabet, numbers, colours, the calendar, describing yourself and your family, jobs, directions and many more. Students can also choose to take exams required to achieve the Level 1 Award in BSL.
Unfortunately, this year the BSL level 1 and 2 courses have been suspended.
However, the committee will still be teaching basic sign language including all the same topics! This is a great opportunity to get an introduction to BSL and get some practice before doing the course next year! (COVID permitting).
We will be running weekly informal lessons with a Zoom link posted on our Facebook page every week.
There will also be guest speakers and socials so keep an eye on our FB, Instagram and your emails!
How does our society work?
Membership is £5 - this allows members to attend our socials and weekly informal virtual lessons, plus you get access to our trips, charity fundraisers, volunteering opportunities and much more.
If your not a member yet but want to give it a go, get in touch with us on our socials or email and we will send you the zoom link so you can have a taster.
Currently, the BSL level 1 and 2 courses are suspended due to COVID-19 restrictions. We are hoping to restart these in 2021.
BSL Level 1 course is £100 (2019 price) - Sign-ups to our BSL level 1 course are closed
BSL pre-level 2 course is £10 (2019 price) - Sign-ups to our BSL pre-level 2 course are closed
