Sign Language

The society is a sign language group which teaches students basic sign language. We run a British Sign Language (BSL) Level 1 course. The course is one year long, with evening classes taking place each week of term. Topic areas include: the alphabet, numbers, colours, the calendar, describing yourself and your family, jobs, directions and many more. Students can also choose to take exams required to achieve the Level 1 Award in BSL.

There are also various socials and fundraisers throughout the year that members can get involved in outside of class.

Membership is £5 - this allows members to attend BSL Social Club, where you can learn British Sign Language in a casual setting weekly, in addition to our other events.

LESSONS ARE NOW ON SALE; There is an additional BSL Level 1 Fee of £100 (2019 price).

Our 2019 taster session and meet/greet will be taking place on Thursday 3rd October, 6.30pm in the Arts Building (Lecture Theatre 7, 2nd Floor) TBC. If you want to know more about our society, and learn some more basic BSL for free, all are welcome! We will also be raising money for our charity Sense, so a voluntary donation of £2 is encouraged :)

[Until summer 2016, this group was known as 'Talking Hands']

FAQ - What does our logo mean? This is the BSL sign for 'Linguistics' and the ASL sign for 'Sign Interpreter'
