Hi Everyone! I'm Amanda, your new Education Officer for 2019/20. I am really excited to start and I am so grateful to have a fantastic team to work alongside for the next year.
A little bit about me: I've recently graduated with a degree in Political Science and am now ready to give back and support the students at Birmingham. In my spare time I will usually be found searching for some new recipes to cook (hit me up, foodies!) or discovering different places to go scuba diving.
Now, onto the more important things: what I want to do for you this year. If you take a look at my manifesto you’ll see I’m really interested in ensuring that there is proper welfare support for you within your departments. I want to make welfare support more consistent over all colleges and departments.
My second manifesto point focuses on expanding the Year in Industry programme to courses which don’t traditionally offer it. Spending a year in the industry is a fantastic way to develop your CV and employability, and I want to help everyone have the opportunity to do just that.
Lastly, I want to improve the Student Rep system so that you can contact your reps and know who they are. This will allow you to be able to give better feedback about your course, school or college and to make the changes you want to see.
I’m extremely excited for the next year and can’t wait to get stuck in!
If you have any questions/queries, or just fancy having a chat, feel free email me, or pop by my office in the Guild.
