Jules' Officer Wins

My first term as Education Officer has presented many challenges, but I am proud of all we have achieved in collaboration with, or as a critical friend of, the University.

Negotiating the Fair Assessment Policy and lobbying for clearer guidance on extenuating circumstances and extensions were challenging measures to deliver but are two of several examples of what we can accomplish by working together. With these policies in place, thousands of students will now be able to graduate with the difficulties of the pandemic accounted for. I look forward to building on these successes in the year ahead with the new officer team.

Much of my time has been spent working with the Student Reps, who have been pivotal in making sure feedback is being taken on board by the University. Where students have had a lot of questions or have felt dissatisfied, I have organised question and answer sessions, giving students a chance to speak with Directors of Education, and have also asked the University to centrally send out additional communications.

Supporting students through the difficulties of the pandemic has been a major focus of mine, and I would like to think that the Guild has done that to the best of our ability.

What this officer team has done together amazes me. I can count on one hand the amount of times the seven of us have actually been in the same physical space, yet we’ve achieved so much. Wei-Lun, I look forward to another year working with you and to Tobi, Charlotte, Rob, Rebecca and Amie; I wish you all the very best for the future.

I look forward to representing you all as Education Officer for 2021-22!
