FFT is a forward-thinking society with a two-pronged approach to activism: we love any opportunity to campaign and also fundraise on behalf of torture victims.
With the recent refugee crisis resulting in record numbers of people seeking asylum in the UK, campaigning on their behalf is becoming increasingly important. We have worked to bring awareness to the plight of refugees and spread the word about the ongoing conflicts that have driven refugees out of their homes.
We meet every few weeks to hold debates and discuss topical issues in the media. Alongside this, we invite speakers including MPs and charity representivites and other experts for presentations and panel discussions. Socials are also a big part of FFT and we often run events including pub quizzes, music nights, and bake sales.

We are affiliated with the Freedom From Torture charity which is UK based and helps rehabilitate refugees who are victims of torture. They provide legal and medical aid alongside counselling and general advice. They also work to protect and promote survivors' rights and hold torturers to account.
