Meet Welfare and Community Officer, Reeve

Hey there! I’m Reeve and I am your new Welfare and Community Officer.

I became an officer because I want to make a difference to the lives of students in our community! I want to listen to what you want to see from your Guild of Students and work with the other Full-Time and Part-Time Officers to see these changes happen as quickly and as efficiently as possible.

Image of Welfare and Community Officer ReeveI want to show off the incredible Guild services that we have available including: Guild Advice, Community Wardens, Student Mentors and Hall Reps to name a few! Guild Advice is a fantastic service which can help you with welfare, housing, money and academic issues if they occur during your time at the University of Birmingham.

What will I be focusing on this year?

This year I will be working on creating guides to living in Birmingham, renting, and navigating the wellbeing systems available to you. I aim to expand the Selly Express service to Harborne, increase the availability of condoms and sanitary products within the Guild, and finally create a ‘pass it on’ scheme. This scheme would encourage leavers to donate their kitchenware to incoming students, minimising costs of purchasing items like saucepans and reducing the amount of waste produced by moving house.

As your Welfare and Community Officer, I will work closely with Hall Reps to maintain an inclusive, healthy and safe experience of university accommodation. I will also support the Community Wardens as they continue to clean up Selly Oak, provide safety equipment and work to make your local area the place you want to live! A key element of this will be ensuring that facilities for and guidance on recycling are readily available, which will in turn make getting your bins collected easier and minimise your household waste.
