Important information

2.1.1     To provide a consistent platform for the screening and exploration of Black cinema – to regularly screen and engage with films that centre Black stories including feature films, short films and documentaries from across the Black diaspora.

2.1.2     To deliver a curated and thematic programme of activities – to organise screenings and events around themes or areas of interest within Black cinema, allowing members to engage with films in a more intentional and connected

2.1.3     To encourage discussion and critical engagement with film and media – to create opportunities for open and respectful discussion where members can explore themes, representation, cultural and creative choices within film and media

2.1.4  to explore connections between film and other forms of Black media and storytelling – to incorporate activities that engage with wider Black media, including literature, adaptations and other forms of storytelling

2.1.5  To facilitate engagement with academic and creative perspectives – to provide opportunities for members to engage with guest speakers such as researchers, filmmakers and other creatives where possible  

2.1.6  To celebrate Black culture and build a welcoming community – to create an inclusive environment that celebrates the cultural impact of Black filmmakers and encourages participation through both cultural and social activities  

2.1.7  To document and reflect on the society’s activities – to create opportunities for members to contribute written or creative reflections on the society’s activities where appropriate

2.1.8 To provide opportunities for student participation and collaboration – to encourage members to actively participate in discussions, events and society activates in a collaborative and inclusive way
