We are the University of Birmingham Meditation Society.
Interested in Meditation? Have you heard of Mindfulness and want to learn more? Then come along to our free sessions, every Wednesday 3-5pm! This year's sessions are led by Dharmashalin, a practicing Buddhist from the local Birmingham Buddhist Centre with decades of experience meditating.
No experience meditating is required, we provide a learning environment for new people as well as a sitting group for those with an established practise. We typically start the session with a 20-30 minute guided meditation and spend the rest of the session discussing: how we found the practise, any problems or questions; as well as particular topics related to meditation, life or Buddhist Philosophy.
You do not have to be a Buddhist to join and we do not expect you to become one - followers of any religion or none are most welcome. Meditation and Buddhist philosophy go hand in hand, and the meditations we practise - mindfulness of the breath, and metta bhavana - were developed in Buddhism, which is why we do a bit of both.
Please feel free to join our facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/uobbuddhistmeditation/, here you'll find updates regarding the society and the room location for each week (normally the Cadbury room).
