The Guild is recruiting! Do you want to develop your transferrable skills in a part-time role and earn some money alongside your studies? Well, this is the perfect opportunity!

There a number of fantastic roles available so please take a look at the job descriptions below before starting your application form. You must be studying at the University of Birmingham in order to apply.

The application deadline is 09:00 on Monday 17th May, although we may close earlier depending on the number of applications we receive.

Interviews will take place remotely via Zoom during the week commencing 24th May.

If you’re a student at the University of Birmingham, then you’re automatically a member of the Guild of Students. As a charity and the students’ union for more than 38,000 students, we’re here to help you develop skills outside of study, have fun, meet new people, represent you to the University and make sure you get the best from Birmingham. Being a student staff member at the Guild therefore means that you’ll be helping your fellow students get the best possible experience from their time at University!

As I’m sure you’re aware, we are living in very uncertain times as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. Should the situation change nationally, such as a delay to the government’s current timetable for relaxing social distancing restrictions, then start dates for some roles may be subject to change.

Please see the below information for each role with regards to upcoming training dates. Please ensure that you are available for these before applying:


Community Wardens

Community Wardens must attend a compulsory 3 day training course from 15th – 17th June 2021. This will be delivered bimodially, mostly virtual but some physical activity involved, and a further 3 training days in September 2021(13th-15th).


Hall Reps

Please note that it is compulsory that Hall Reps are available to work over Arrivals Weekend (18th -19th September 2021), during Welcome Week (W.C. 20th September 2021) and at Accommodation Open Day in March 2022. Must also be available to attend training on 16th June and further training dates of 15th & 16th September.


Student Mentors

Please note that it is compulsory that Student Mentors are available to work over Arrivals Weekend (18th -19th September 2021), during Welcome Week (W.C. 20th September 2021) and at Accommodation Open Day in March 2022. Student Mentors must also attend a compulsory 3 day training course in June 2021 (14th-16th June) and 5 further training days before Welcome Week (8th-10th and 15th, 16th September 2021).


Bar Assistant

Training will take place during late May and early June, dates are to be confirmed.


Security Assistant

Training will take place during late May and early June, dates are to be confirmed.

You can apply to be considered for up to three different roles in your application form. You can only apply for one vacancy if you wish, although we recommend applying for multiple roles if possible.

Please ensure that you read the Application Form Instructions before completing your application in order to give you the best chance of being shortlisted for an interview.

Once you have submitted your application, it will be shortlisted against the job description and person specification and you will be informed of the outcome via email from the HR Team.
